That is correct. I worked part of the year in SC and part of the year in WI and I claimed both (taking WI's higher level), getting Wisconsin's $363 rather than SC's $326 per week.

I'd argue with you, but... you have a job and I don't, so you must know what you're talking about ;)

Good insight Jessica.

Mitch - these are all useful tips and this website is a great idea. And good luck to everybody out there still searching.

i disagree with the statement that employers are not looking for overqualified people, especially in this market. generally if employers can get 9 years of experience and only pay for 6 years, thats a pretty good deal. its a buyer's market for employers - there are tons of people that are desperate for a job and willing to take a pay cut. If you really want that job you have to make it clear to the employer that you are ready, willing AND happy to roll up your sleeves and do the dirty work, despite the extent of your previous experience. If you are overqualified by 10 years, its probably unlikely that they will hire you, but by maybe 3-5 years? I think you still have a shot in this market without "dumbing down". i've seen it happen multiple times recently - although i work in finance, so maybe its different in other industries.
